April 7: African car wash

Innovation comes out of great human ingenuity and very personal passions. Megan Smith

A brilliant example of a thriving business based on ingenuity and passion in Grahamstown where my Dad and aunt have their car washed on a Saturday. There is absolute attention to detail. The water comes from the rainwater tank, and the cars are bucket washed to save the previous resource. You have to get there by 7:00 am otherwise the wait will just be too long!!! The have erected a tarp of sorts to provide some shade, and even have a bench for the oldies! The whole process takes about 90 minutes, but there is entertainment provided - music blaring over loudspeakers, powered by a generator that is almost louder!! Perhaps the world could learn from this ingenuity in how to survive and feed the family!
