The story of life is quicker than the blink of an eye, the story of love is hello, goodbye. Jimi Hendrix
As another year closes and a new year begins we have the opportunity to reflect on the past year, and look forward to new beginnings. I am always amazed at how fast the year disappears...you can literally hear the sand grains in the hour glass flowing through, fast, but somehow in slow motion too. As usual, it was a year of firsts and a year of lasts. The first time we watched Caitlin rowing, and the last first day of school ever for Nicole (and us). The first summer back home after the first year of college. The last summer home before the last year of school. And in those, many firsts and lasts, there was celebration of new exciting things, and grieving for what was, and will never be again. The first trip back to South Africa for me after four years to spend precious, much-needed time with family, and the first time in five years to coming back home to what really feels like home. Our first white Christmas! The year seems to have taken our breath away, but we have found love and friendship in between. Love for each other, love for family, love for life, and a deeper appreciation of where we are in life. An appreciation that there is a reason for everything, and everything happens in God's time. A lesson to have faith and believe, and to never stop being grateful for even the teeniest tiniest miracles in everyday things. A time to say goodbye to yesterday, and hello to things to come. A time to reflect and be grateful that every step has been carefully planned to prepare and strengthen us for the path ahead. So we say goodbye to 2017 and eagerly await 2018!
